Our mission is to bring the best of science research to the Saudi family.  Our vision is to become the leading comprehensive center dealing with genetic disorders in the Middle East.  This is no surprise to those familiar with our beginning.  In January 2005, I set up the first Medical Genetic clinic in the city of Jeddah.  I set out to educate both the public and the medical community about the role of clinical genetics.  Over a short period of time my clinic became overbooked and I started my fulfilling journey of establishing the first Medical Genetic Unit (MGU) in the Western Region of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.  Since then, more than 800 patients and families have been seen in this unit that provides clinical genetic services, genetic counseling, a multidiscipline Down syndrome clinic, training for undergraduate and post graduate students of various specialties and from various hospitals, education, public lectures regarding preventing and/or dealing with genetic disorders, research projects, a genetic database, a confidential genetic filing system and a multitude of talks given to various levels of practitioners of different scientific backgrounds in the attempt to disseminate knowledge regarding Medical Genetics. The MGU has served as a nucleus for the newly established Princess Al Jawhara Center of Excellence in Research of Hereditary Disorders named after the generous Princess Al Jawhara Bent Ibrahim Al-Ibrahim who provided funding for the establishment of this center and who is well known for her various community services.
